WHY A SPECIAL DETERGENT

Woolskin was developed to maintain the comfort and therapeutic advantages of wool and sheepskin products, such as:

Medical Sheepskins wash , sheepskin car seat covers, sheepskin baby rugs, sheepskin clothing and footwear. Maintaining the special texture of woollen products is very dependent on the laundering process and type of detergent used.

Woolskin: Sheepskin wash  & wool wash with conditioner, is formulated using the latest in tanning technology. Woolskin will wash the wool fibres and skin and add a ‘conditioner’ that will maintain the softness and feel of

both. Woolskin has applications for domestic, hospital and commercial laundry use.

Pure new wool has a coating of protein around each fibre. This protein acts as a shield or barrier that contributes to the air

circulation between wool fibres.  Sheepskin and wool create a unique comfort and have therapeutic advantages not seen in other materials..

BEWARE! Detergents, which contain enzymes, phosphates, peroxide, alkali or bleach can cause irreversible damage to the leather. Woolskin contains none of these chemicals.

WOOL WASH CONTAINING WATER SOFTENING CHEMICALS, SUCH AS PHOSPHATES, ARE NOT SUITABLE FOR WASHING SHEEPSKIN

Woolskin contains a unique blend of non-ionic surfactants; a dispersant to remove oil based stains; a blend of conditioning agents that lubricate the sheepskin and give a distinct lustre and handle to the wool fibre; a hospital approved antibacterial agent (which also minimises odours); and Tea tree oil ( Malaleuca oil ), which is effective against dust mite, and the fresh scent of lemon myrtle.

TEA TREE OIL EFFECTIVE AGAINST DUST MITE

The oil from tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) is nature’s weapon against dust mite, a known cause of allergen for asthma sufferers and particularly in babies.

Woolskin contains a unique blend of melaleuca oils, including tea tree oil, which has been proven effective against dust miteª. Woolskin can be used as a general laundry detergent suitable for bed linen and clothing. Woolskin will be beneficial to chronic asthma sufferers where dust mite is a critical matter. Tea tree oil, whilst being effective against housedust mite, is also recognised as antifungal and antibacterial as well.

The commercial laundering of medical sheepskin for hospitals

The commercial laundering of medical sheepskin for hospitals and institutions for long term care to the Australian standard AS4146 has been less than satisfactory - both with respect to damage to the

sheepskin and bacteria control. Consequently, the CSIRO developed a new standard, (AS4480-11998) which enables sheepskin tanned to that standard to be laundered at higher temperatures. Whilst the higher temperatures will kill bacteria, reinfestation would occur in use. The bacteriostat in Woolskin - which is approved for hospital use - inhibits bacterial growth and, because it remains as

an active residue, maintains antibacterial efficacy during use†. The biocide also acts in the prevention of malodor on textiles due to bacteria‡.
